Beginners’ Courses (next one: Spring 2024)

Perhaps you have had a go at Archery in the past or you are totally new to the Sport? At Maidenhead Archers we love Archery and hope you will too and an Archery course is the ideal way to discover a new hobby and learn a new skill! Additionally, if you wish to join an Archery club you will have to undertake a beginner’s course first.

At the club we normally run four courses a year, two indoor courses over the Autumn and Winter at Eton Wick and two over the Spring and Summer at Braywick, one of which is specifically for juniors and parents. We are happy to welcome anyone who wants to learn the basics of Archery. We cover everything you need to get started with the sport and if you decide to join our club afterwards, we will continue to help support you with coaching and provide practical advice as to purchasing your own equipment when needed.

We run four courses a year, two indoor courses over the Autumn and Winter at Eton Wick and two over the Spring and Summer at Braywick. one of which is specifically for juniors and parents.

The indoor courses at Eton Wick are:

  • six Thursday evenings in Oct ~ Nov
  • six Thursday evenings in Feb ~ Mar

The outdoor courses at Braywick are:

  • six Wednesday evenings in May ~ June
  • six Thursday evenings in June ~ July (Junior and Parent course)

The first four sessions of all courses are core sessions, for the last two sessions the beginners get to join club members on the main shooting line under supervision.

Each session lasts approximately 2 hours; although for the first session you will need you arrive half an hour earlier to be measured for equipment.

Each course lasts for 6 weeks. Please be sure that you can attend all 6 sessions before signing up as you need to attend a minimum number of sessions before you can be allowed to join any archery club.

Each course costs £90 per Adult, £70 per Junior. This gets you a 6 session course, access to all the required equipment and includes insurance. After successfully completing the course you will receive a certificate from the club and will be invited to join Maidenhead Archers. You can also use the certificate to join many other Archery GB recognised clubs – though we would love you to consider joining our club (we are the best)!
The courses are open to anyone over the age of 10, although if the participant is under 18 a parent or guardian must stay with them for each lesson.
Our indoor courses take place in the Sports Hall behind the Eton Wick Village Hall, (post code: SL4 6LT). There is free parking to the left of the village hall, outside the Eton Wick Football & Social Club, also outside the shops and across the road.
Our outdoor courses and shooting takes place at our base at Braywick Sports Ground in Maidenhead (post code: SL6 1BN), which is close to the train station and has plenty of parking, (the Maidenhead Rugby and Athletics clubs are based here too). It is on the A308 half way between the M4 J8/9 and Maidenhead.
While we expect (hope!) the weather will be lovely for our outdoor sessions, wear something appropriate to the weather conditions on the day. However, for the outdoor sessions, you always need to wear closed-toe shoes (trainers or walking boots are best) and a close-fitting long sleeved top is required too. Thin layers are always best, nothing too thick as it can interfere with your shot! Closed toe shoes are mandatory for indoors too.
Do I need to bring or buy anything? No, just bring yourself appropriately dressed! We will provide everything you need – there is no requirement for you to rush out and buy anything!

How do I sign up? Please make contact through our contact form. Our courses are very popular and have waiting lists.

Please state if you are part of a group (give a list of names), and tell us if any participant is under 18.
