Maidenhead Archers welcome anyone who wants to try archery with a view to taking up the sport and joining our Club. Our instructors will teach you the correct techniques and ensure that you know how to shoot safely.
Starting date and times
The next Beginners Course starts on Wednesday 7th May 2007. On the first evening we meet promptly at 6.30 pm to kit you out with archery equipment in order to be ready to start shooting promptly at 7.00 pm. Thereafter, the assembly time will be 6.45 pm. Each lesson will last one hour. The Course consists of six lessons. If it’s necessary to cancel a lesson due to bad weather it will be made up later. We cannot accept beginners into the Club unless they have attended at least 4 lessons. You must confirm your place on the course prior to the start date – numbers are strictly limited and we cannot accommodate people on the day.
Cost
The fee for the six weeks is £40. In order to comply with GNAS insurance regulations this must paid in advance at the time of booking your place.
Juniors
We allow juniors of age 14 years and above to participate in the Beginners Course, subject to the discretion of the Coach as to the young person’s ability to handle the equipment safely. Juniors must be accompanied by a parent, or parentally approved guardian, at all times. We recommend that a parent/guardian also takes the course to foster healthy competition and encourage future interest in the sport.
Equipment
We provide all the equipment for the course. Please do not buy any equipment yourself. If you are invited to join the Club after the course we can offer bows for hire for short periods, and will advise you on the purchase your own equipment.
Clothing
You should wear comfortable but close-fitting clothing. If it’s chilly it’s better to wear several thin layers rather than one bulky one. In particular it’s important that you don’t wear jumpers or jackets with baggy sleeves, as bowstrings tend to catch on them and spoil your shot! Please also wear flat-soled, closed-toe shoes suitable for outdoor wear.
Where
The Maidenhead Archers outdoor shooting range is located at the Braywick Sports Centre, Braywick Road, Maidenhead.
